In the studio!
Me and Marty in the studio

Well I finally made it into the studio after how many years making music? Too many without a good studio recording. So we finished up "Say Goodbye" yesterday in Marty Rifkin's Santa Monica, CA studio.
Marty is awesome-he is a Grammy-award winning performer and producer and has been a guitar player for Bruce Springsteen for years. He worked with a truckload of other artists: Tom Petty, Jewel, Shawn Mullins, and even Weird Al!
I was like a kid in the candy shop-as you can see as I grin in front of Marty's Gold Records.
So I hope you get a chance to listen to "Say Goodbye" on http://georgehartline.com . Subscribe to the podcast there too and leave me a message on this blog please! I love to hear from you guys.
Here are a couple more shots from the studio.

New website!
The new website is coming along slowly but surely. I am thinking of waiting until the new studio album is ready before launching the new site, but I may just wait until I have a few songs to put on here.
Also, I changed the journal page (blogger page). I want to hear from you-leave me a comment.

Disabled Veteran and Musician Gives Back
MUSICIAN, FORMER MARINE GEORGE HARTLINE GIVES BACK AND PROMOTES INDEPENDENT MUSIC
GeorgeHartline.com-George Hartline and bandmates are holding a "bum
rush the charts" campaign where "hartbreakers" as his fans are known, will
purchase his newly-released cd/dvd "Live from Lake Elsinore, CA" online on the same day, August 31st, in an attempt to spike sales for that week and in turn show up on the Billboard ratings radar.
A former Marine who served in Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2005, George will donate $2 from every sale to his old Marine Corps unit in Camp Pendelton, CA, to help ease the financial hardships of other
Marines.
"I think it is great to be able to support our troops and support independent
music at the same time" says George. The goal for the sale is 3,000 sales, but
"more would be just fine with me!" says George.
George Hartline has been working on his musical act for several years and hopes to catch a big break with the bum rush campaign. "Black Lab, another semi-indie band, did the same thing and garnered nationwide attention because of it. Now their music is all over the place." says George.
George classifies his music as "roots-rock or alt-country. I grew up on Dave
Matthews Band, Counting Crows, and John Mayer." You can catch George performing all over LA, including September 8th at BB King's Blues Club at Universal Studios directly following the Moondance Film Festival.

the skinny on the George Hartline Bumrush...

Hey everyone,
I have a plan to achieve a cool goal, but it will only work with your help.
Below is the link for the Billboard Top Independent Albums, released weekly throughout the year. It is "the" billboard chart published in billboard magazine, etc. There are several charts, like "billboard 200", "Pop 100" etc.

http://www.billboard.com/bbcom/charts/chart_display.jsp?g=Albums&f=Top+Independent+Albums
My goal is to break into the Top 50 “Independent” chart. To get published in the Billboard Magazine on the chart. To take that and frame it and keep it forever. AND, just maybe, get noticed by a lot of people in the industry who will be scratching their head and saying "whoa: who is George Hartline???"
To get into the top 50 this week, I would have had to sell 3000 albums. They are tracked by Nielsen Soundscan through CDBABY.com. So if 3000 people had bought my cd through cdbaby.com last week I would have been in the magazine and have set off a whole wave of craziness.
NOW, don't go buy the cd yet...if you are willing to go buy a cd/dvd on cdbaby for 13.97, just email me back "yes I will buy the album". There are 364 of you. Once I get 3000 people who are willing, I am going to set the date for you to purchase the album. I am shooting for around the end of August. Then, we sit back, and watch. Then, go to Barnes and Noble and buy a copy of Billboard magazine and see what happens when you participate! YOU CAN MAKE THIS HAPPEN!!
SO that means if 3000 people buy the album for 13.97, I make 41,910 dollars, minus 4 dollars from each album CD BABY keeps (4 X 3000=12,000)...leaves me 29910. Then I can pay back 2500 to the Bayless family for helping me make the album, and 3000 to Dale Brewer for his donation. Leaving me 24,410. The albums will cost me18,000 dollars to be made, leaving me 6,410 dollars. And then I will throw a party with that money, maybe in 2 cities to accomodate most everyone. (probably one in Alabama and one in California). And I will be able to get the band airline tickets to come to the Alabama party and play. And we will play at the California party too.
So there are 364 of you. That leaves 2636 people we need to find to buy an album. If each of YOU found 8 other people that would be willing to spend 13.97 we could make this happen!! Even if it takes us a few months to do this, wouldn’t it be CRAZY if it worked!!!
Let’s do this –TOGETHER! And don’t think I won’t recognize you…I will even put every one of your pictures on my website for a month with a link to your site if you like. This could be interesting…..
-Thanks

Bumrush the Charts!
Okay, so you heard how Black Lab, and independent, unsigned rock band bumrushed the Billboard charts and made history. So we are going to do it again with George Hartline. I'm an unsigned artist in Southern California influenced by Dave Matthews Band, John Mayer, Counting Crows, among others.
JOIN THE BUMRUSH
Right now I need to know if you would be willing to join 364 others so far...and buy my album, "Live from Lake Elsinore, CA" a cd + dvd , for 13.97. Really this is just an experiment-I owe money for the production so I won't make but a couple of thousand dollars, which I am going to use to throw 2 parties, one in California and one in Alabama, for everyone who participated. The party will feature our band, George Hartline!
